Database Programming with Visual Basic 6

A few years ago, when I wrote Mastering Visual Basic 5, I included a chapter on the basic concepts of database programming. It was by far the longest chapter in the book. The chapter discussed Data Access Objects (DAO) and addressed the topic of programming Access databases with Visual Basic.

The Visual Basic 6 version of the same book contained two chapters on data- base programming: one based on DAO and another based on Active Data Objects (ADO). Selecting the topics to include in the discussion of ADO was not simple. VB was being enhanced with new database-related features, but the book could not keep growing; there was simply no room. The need for a book on database programming became obvious-and this is it. Mastering Database Programming with Visual Basic 6 is the book for VB developers who wish to move into database programming.

Today, Visual Basic is still the most popular programming language, and it's ideal for building database applications. Visual Basic comes with an array of tools for building database applications, the visual database tools, that make it the best envi- ronment for developing client/server and multi-tier applications.
